We are seeking a customer-oriented, motivated, and team-focused individual for the full time role of Health & Safety Coordinator.  This position can be based in either our Slave Lake or Peace River location in the province of Alberta.

The Health & Safety Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of health and safety programs for workers, customers and contractors.  The position will ensure compliance with all standards and government regulations.  The ideal candidate will have a passion for contributing to a safe work environment, promoting a strong safety culture.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Health & Safety Coordinator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead behavioural-based safety programs and policies for company, customer, and contractor personnel.

  • Conduct new hire safety orientations, and ensure the completion and review of daily logs, pre-trip inspections, and job hazard assessments for completeness and compliance.

  • Ensure driver evaluations, and employee health & safety evaluations are completed annually.

  • Maintain custody of all safety programs (employer, customer, contractor, and online platforms like ISN and ComplyWorks).

  • Review customer and contractor safety protocols and training records for compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

  • Stay knowledgeable in all relevant OH&S legislation.

  • Compile and assess safety data to identify trends and implement corrective actions.

  • Participate in safety-related activities such as meetings, emergency response drills, investigations, and inspections.

  • Report to the Director on a regular basis on the safety program effectiveness.

  • Maintain the Health & Safety manual, New Worker Handbook, and Contractor Hiring Package.

  • Manage SiteDocs safety management software, including form creation and personnel training.

  • Conduct COR maintenance audits, maintain current auditor training. Develop and monitor audit action plans and coordinate external audits, ensuring the company's COR certification is maintained.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Promote the health, safety and welfare of workers, and others at or in the vicinity of the work site.

  • Ensure workers are aware of their rights, responsibilities and any workplace health and safety issues.

  • Help ensure workers are properly trained.

  • Cooperate with any person exercising a duty under the OHS legislation, and comply with the OHS legislation.

  • Review, investigate, and follow up on all incidents/accidents when required to do so and forward all findings to management for corrective actions.

  • Observe workers/sub-contractor safety practices and provide recommendations for improvements to management.

  • Promotion the use of and wear all P.P.E. required on site.

Qualifications

  • Three years experience in a related industry combined with direct experience in a health and safety focused role.

  • A post secondary diploma or degree in OH&S is an asset.

  • Current accredited safety designation, with preference for QHSO, CHSR or NCSO credentials.

  • In-depth knowledge of OH&S regulations.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and develop effective working relationships with stakeholders.

  • Strong computer knowledge, experience with safety management systems being an asset.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be in good physical shape, able to work in various temperatures and locations.

  • Ability to bend, climb into equipment/vehicles, and sit for long periods.

  • Prolonged use of computers.
